Help pls

:caf (this just means I'm watching this thread in order to learn but have nothing to contribute. This way I will get alerts so I'll know when anyone adds comments.) Sorry your hen is not feeling well.

Your little patient has been on the calcium long enough. You can stop it.

That waxy blob is chicken pus from a reproductive infection called salpingitis. If left untreated, it turns into a chronic infection that will end up killing her in time. Since she's young, and you've caught it early, an antibiotic has a good chance of curing it.

If you have a Tractor Supply, they usually carry 500mg amoxicillin labeled Fish Mox. A chicken only needs 250mg per day so you'll have to break open the capsules and dump out the powder and give half of it each day. I've had success in dipping a tiny piece of bread in olive oil and then sopping up the amoxy powder with it and the chicken is eager to gobble it down. Treat her in this way for ten days.

Alrighty. I didn't think it was pus. Sure didn't smell like pus would. It really looks like a membrane with eggs whites inside and the yoke was around it. I'm not saying your wrong just surprised me is all

It's a ncs layer feed made by a local that has a feed mill alot of people buy his product so not really worried there. Made up of flax and barley and other seeds. Much more natural approach than most feed.

I'm also starting to think it might be the feed because sometimes one or two others wont lay. I'm feeding an ncs layer feed made by a local that is mostly flax and barley looks like the picture it has alot of other things in it.

Alot of powder is left everyday in the bottom of the feeder and I'm am concerned that this where all the nutrients are they also don't seems to eat that much of it.im really starting to wonder if this is the creator of my problems. Should I go back slowly to the other feed? We never has issues on it
Try fermenting or atleast soaking that feed overnight. The powder is the added vitamins/minerals, etc. Feeding a loose feed like that (non pelleted) birds will pick out their favorite things and leave the rest, if they aren't getting the powder - this could cause a nutritional imbalance. See if that makes a difference.

It would be great to see a label/analysis for that feed just so we could see what ingredients are/how it's worded.

This is what I'm starting to think.

I have been researching for days and have found lash eggs in my research but this looks nothing like any lash eggs I have seen. Didn't have the appearance or feel of waxy it felt exactly like an membrane very squishy and looks like another chicken ate the yoke.

Now that you've added a verbal description to the photo, my assessment that it's salpingitis is likely wrong. Lash eggs, the quirky name for the infected material shed in the oviduct, are firm like cheese curds. If cut into, they maintain the firm consistency throughout.

What you have is more likely leftover material from the oviduct that has been blocking her, causing her to feel unwell. Since part of what you describe involves egg yolk, it's very wise to treat her with an antibiotic since yolk left behind in the oviduct will more often than not invite bacteria to colonize it.

I still recommend getting her on the amoxicillin as soon as possible so this doesn't develop into a chronic reproductive infection.

Well I started to to incorporate the commercial feed back into their diet slowly at a 1 to 1 ratio for now which is fine. To my surprise they ate it willingly and have now started to eat more of that than the other feed and getting three consistent eggs from the other girls now. The hen is laying something everyday now although not an egg. Same thing everytime. Im really wanting to figure this out. She stills acts as if she is fine, running about, pecking, eating, breaking out of the poultry netting. Very normal chicken behavior and seems more friendly than any other chickens. Could it be stress? Not able to find fish mox or anything on the shelf for amoxacillin. How else can I get ahold of some for chickens? It's a head scratcher for sure. Everyone else I have found with a similar problem it either corrects itself or their chicken is showing some other signs of being sick.
