HELP!!!
MY polish Bantam Pom is not doing well! We had a death in the flock last week and the breeder attributed it it 'failure to thrive' that poor chick acted kinda like she was drunk and now my Pom is acting the same way.
SHE WILL EAT! I have her on electrolytes and apple sauce (her favorite)
1) Polish Bantam 8 weeks old
2) cannot stand, acts like she is drunk, will eat, makes horrified faces when I gave her water with Apple Cider Vinegar (deluted of course 1tablespoon to one-half gallon)
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?- TWO DAYS
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?-YES, ONE DIED LAST WEEK
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.- NO!
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.-LAWN WAS TREATED WITH PESTICIDES (MOTHER NATURE LAWN CARE) LAST WEEK BY ACCIDENT (I HAD CANCELLED THEY SHOWED UP WHILE I WAS AT WORK)
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.- EATING PEAS, DRINKING WATER, CHICK STARTER (NON-MEDICATED) LETTUCE CHOPPED UP, SHE USED TO BE AGGRESISVE WITH THE DUCKS FOR FOOD, BUT IN THE LAST TWO DAYS SHES JUST BARELY MOVES
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.- I HAVE NOT SEEN HER POOP, NO VENT BLOCKAGE, CHECK THE COOP, ZERO RUNNY POO OR BLOODY STOOL
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?- ELECTOLYTES, APPLESAUCE, CONSIDERING SOME COOKED EGG.... I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO!!
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?- TREAT HER MYSELF
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.SHE LOOKS FINE, JUST SLEEPY AND CANT STAND UP
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use-HER RUN IS FENCED IN WITH GRASS AND WATER THREE WATER SOURCES (WHICH ARE CHANGED TWICE DAILY) COOP HAS PINE BEADING AND A RED HEAT LAMP AT NIGHT
SHE IS MAKING SOFT PEEPING NOISES NOW, I HAVE HER TUCKED INTO MY JACKET FOR WARMTH, WE HAVE HAD A COLD SNAP THE LAST FEW DAYS,
HELP, I JUST CANT BEAR TO LOOSE ANOTHER GIRL!!!
POM THREE WEEKS AGO, SHES A LITTLE BIGGER, BUT NOT MUCH, ALL FEATHERS ARE FINE, NO EXTERNAL, VISIBLE TRAUMA
