One of our hens recently got brudy and we have let her sit three eggs one hatched in the early hours of tuesday mornign and all was going well until this morning when i went to check on her and the baby had been squished and the mother looked very unwell.

she had foamy, bubbly eyes and a very pale comb, ive brought her inside away from the other hens and added a hot water bottle to try and keep her warm, as she feel very cold. ive been trying to give her water, one thread suggested adding sugar?
she also seems to be making a croaking noise and heavy breathing

Please could someone offer some help as to what i should do. Weve lost one baby today i really dont want to loose her!

Thanks Toni

Bumping this thread because I want you to get a good answer. Sorry to hear she isn't doing well. Get her some sugar in the water for sure, its a good energy boost. Also some pedialite would be good in case she is dehydrating. Sure hope someone else chimes in.

There are several respiratory illnesses chickens get.
If she has a sickly-sweet smell around her face, she has Infectious Coryza.
Mycoplasma Gallisepticum is another common respiratory disease.
You can do a Search here on BYC for info on these.

On the Fungal Infections page on the website linked in my sig, there are a number of healthy foods listed for ill chickens.
On the Baytril for Birds page, there are instructions on force-feeding small amounts of food & water, too. If she won't eat at all, you will want to Search on BYC for info on tube feeding, if you want to more easily feed larger quantities.
