Help - Possible Coryza infestation - my stupidity

Well, I just got back from the lab...with my birds!! Had I brought them in the building, they would have been surrendered to the lab. Knowing they were our pets they didn't want to kill them either. They did all the tests and swabs out in the parking lot so I would be able to take them home. Phew!! (though we're not out of the woods yet) They won't be testing for all chicken illnesses, just the bad ones. I guess the rest are treatable. The doctor said he hasn't seen Coryza in over 10 years and would be surprised if it was. I was told to keep them separated from the rest of the flock until I receive the results and to treat everyone with Tetracycline for two weeks. I had that stuff all the while, but bought a fresh package from the TSC just in case. Now the waiting game on the results. Wish us luck!

Good luck! It might not be coryza, but it could be MS or MG, those are a lot more common I've heard. Kinda the same deal though......closed flock since birds remain carriers for life. Hopefully that's not the issue! So glad they were understanding about your birds being pets!

Waiting for these results is absolutely killing me. One minute I feel hopeful and then the next minute I feel dread. Went to lock up the rest of my girls last night and more of them are sick. I can hear a rattling sound when they breathe. This is breaking my heart. I went ahead and added Honey & Brock back with the flock as it's obvious they all have been exposed. The tetracycline has been added to their drinkers, so I guess all I can do is wait. It sucks having to throw away eggs and losing my customers as the few bucks I made on selling my eggs had off set my feed bill. A hard lesson now learned.

Well, I spent all of yesterday researching chicken diseases and in my opinion I'm thinking this is IB- infectious bronchitis. Has anyone on here dealt with this? I'm reading mixed reviews about it and how to deal with it. Is it a "carrier" disease or not? I read that is was and you should cull your flock. Then somewhere else I read they can recover and not be carriers. I'm so confused. Then I read there's a vaccine. Ahhhh!!!!

I refuse to look up anything today. On a good note, the person I made the trade with took a few of their birds to the same lab as well. Theirs were sacrificed, so maybe the results of what we're dealing with will come faster. I'll keep ya's posted.
