MY black orpington has not laid an egg in about 5 months. She did not go through any molting process or go broody from what we can tell. She is gone into the nesting box almost everyday during that time and done all the sounds of wanting to and laying an egg just not egg. Yesterday I started to notice she was sitting down a lot more than usual for her. But I wasn't as concerned because when the the treats came out she would run around and at normal. Just this morning I opened the coop and she was sitting on the floor, panting and not wanting to move. When I tried to give her a piece of bread to see if she was interested she looked at it all weird. Tried to pick her up and she ran away. Then about 2 feet later plopped down and is still panting. It is around 65 degrees right now and not hot at all. Does she sound egg bound??? She is still sitting and panting at this time.... Any suggestions on what i should do???

She does indeed sound egg-bounded. I would have started soaking her the second week you noticed she wasnt laying. Since its been so long and if you want her to make it i would start soaking her in warm (Not hot) epsom salt water two times a day for at LEAST a half an hour.

Ok. I'll start that right now. Poor thing right now is scared (with my other hens) as a falcon just tried to go after my pullets. I originally didn't think she was egg bound because all the hens stopped laying a few months ago due molting and too many treats but she is the only one that didn't restart laying. I was told she might be going broody too since she was acting normal and I checked to see if she had an egg stuck and couldn't feel anything. :(

Could you post some pictures? She could just be constipated. Is she bloated at all?

can you get her to a vet?
check her vent to see if its prolapsed, feel if there is an egg there, feel her abdomen for swelling or squishy-fluid like

you can also give her a boost of calcium to help if it is an egg, also wont hurt if it isnt an egg- Take a Tums and break it up into a few pieces and have her eat it

She could be egg bound or she might have Egg Yolk Peritonitis.I would first check for a egg in her vent,You will need a glove and some Vaseline.Rub Vaseline on your index finger and slowly insert it into her vent.If it comes to a stop she is egg bound and you need to soak her in warm Epsom salt water for 20 minutes. You can crush up a tums tablet and offer it to her in yogurt. She might have Egg Yolk Peritonitis which can cause eggs to be internally laided which is deposited in the colemotic cavity.Common symptoms of EYP is Drooping of the abdomen,Panting and lethargy. There is no cure for EYP,Birds affected are put down.If you have a vet near it would be wise to take her there.

She is soaking now and just standing in the water. How high does the water need to be? checked her abdomen no squishy feeling, vent not prolasped but I am about the check and see if there is an egg her her. she is no longer panting but she stopped panting after the falcon attack. she is quite feisty now as she was not happy with me. will take pictures give me a few seconds
