Help!!! prolapse maybe? what to do?

Thanks Spish for the positive words... I am scared that I will have to tell my twin 5 year olds that one of the babies we raised ourselves is gone.
She seems the same as yesterday, not too off normal. There was poop in the cage i had her in so things are coming out...
I will go buy preperation H today as I dont have that in the house. I will try holding the prolapse in her longer to see if it will stay. Ugh- poor kiddo.

8 years or so ago I had a hen with prolapse, she layed these enormous round eggs. (They were not as oblong as most eggs.)

Someone recommended that I coat the prolapsed tissue with preparation H and push it back in. I don't remember at this time how often or for how many days I did this. Probably at least 2 X per day until she was better. I think I continued using the Prep H for a while after she stopped prolapsing.

They also recommended that force her into a molt so she would stop laying by decreasing feed (use lower protein feed) and putting her in a dimmly lit place. (I put her in a box, by my bed the first night or so, because I read that if they try to lay an egg when they have a prolapse it can kill them. I wanted to be able to assist her if she needed it.

Eventually it did heal itself and stay in for the most part. After each time she layed an egg, it would hang out for several minutes, but then would go back in on it's own.

She had hatched in the summer, and I read at the time that chicks hatched in the summer had a higher risk of this happening, because they tended to start laying earlier, before they were mature. I'm not sure how true that is. Your's obviously did not hatch in the summer.

Thanks everyone- I did the soaking, prperation H, Honey/sugar, pushing back in, but she was too far gone adn we culled her. She was egg bound very bad with a rubbery type egg. Just too young... thanks for kind thoughts and tips

A similar incident happened to one of our first chickens. We took her to the bird clinic and it was cancer... so we put her down and buried her in the back yard.
Very sad...

We have one leghorn with the prolapse issue, and are going to try the bath and some of the remedies tried by all of you.

Also, intending to put some cider vinegar into the water, in hopes of helping the immune system.

Everyone seems so knowledgeable, I hope we are ready for this!
