HELP!!!! PULLET LIMPING ON RIGHT LEG!!!!

Ugg. I couldn't even finish the video. We don't think she has bumblefoot, because we checked her foot over carefully at least 25 times. But thanks. No one thinks she's going to make it (except me) Until monday, but if she does we're bringing her to the vet!!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! (I've been wanting to take her to the vet but every body said that it was a wast of money, and that she was just a chicken. But she's not just a chicken! She's a pet, and she's like a family member! I'd do any thing to keep her alive!

HELP!!!!! THE VET DIDN'T KOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND AN X-RAY TO CHECK FOR A FRACTURE COST $200!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we took her to the vet, and it wasn't a broken bone. They checked for worms, b/c if she has worms it could either make her body weaker and more easily injured, or she got injured making her body more venerable to worms. To check for a fracture which we think is the problem, we would have to pay for a $200 X-RAY . Wonderful, right? I've been massaging her leg by slowly rotating it in circles and stretching it at the same slow speed, and then, since her injured leg is colder than her good leg, I wrap it loosley in a softish strip of cloth and clasp my hand around it to warm it up. If you have any ideas, PLEASE tell me!!!!!!!!!

sounds like a tendon issue. i would up her niacin . in the past i have done some p/t on a leg. i moved the leg up and down 10x at 3x per day. this builds muscle .
check her tendons around the ankle area to see if it is out of place. if it is with you thumb move it back in place. it is like our tendon is the back of our ankle.

if it is a break you maybe able to feel it. if it is a hip break that is not good. leg break splint it. vet confirmed no break ?

worms are natural in all living things. an overload of worms is bad. an over load you will see them in the poop. if you want feed her some pumpkin.

if she is eating and drinking that is good. when sometime passes and she seem like she is not getting better, you will have to do the deed.

is there any other signs of illness. ?

It's not worms, or a break. We think that a mussle conected to her femer tore, and now all the rest is dissolving. We let hr out with the others b/c she will only eat/drink when she's with them, and when she hops around with the others, she's exercising the leg. we hope she heals up and lives, or at least dies after living a quality, happy, chickeny life. (She's very happy with the other girls, Peep and Lady Lacey, BR pullet in my avatar, Peep, RIR pull, and Speckles, BR cock.) THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that this is any consultion, and may not apply in your girl's case, but my mother had a pet chicken when she was young with a gimpy leg...she eventually got around just fine on it (hopping mostly on her good leg) and was my grandmother's best layer.......they always chided my grandfather for wanting to put her down.

So your saying that as long as she's not in pain, and it doesn't get any worse, that she could live?! THAT'S GREAT!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what caused my mother's chicken's lameness, never had that conversation with my grandparents....it was during the depression. But evidently the way my mother tells it, the chicken was not in apparent pain and lived a good long prductive life. having no idea what is wrong with your girl, that's something you will have to decide, I would base it on her recovery, which I hope she makes of course....but I'm not for letting critters suffer. It would be best if you could find out exactly what was wrong with her. Fever is not good. If it is "just' a muscle tear, and you are not put off by dealing with a 'special needs" chicken and she's not suffering, then o.k. It's just that fever thing that bothers me. Did it go away completely?

that is a good sign that she is eating ,drinking and social.. as long as she is not in pain let her be a chicken. gimps happen. if she gets around good deal. she will rest when she needs to. put a low roost in the coop for her so at night she has a spot. just watch the other chickens for signs of bullying. chickens can and will kill another bird if it is weaker.

No chicken would ever hurt Sunny, (she was the lead pullet before she was injured), and yes, the fever thing went away. i think I''m the only one here who thinks she's going to make it.
