Help! Pullet Tries To Lay First Egg...But Membrane Is Surrounding It?!

Thank you for that post Granny Hatchet. It made me smile. I'm not much for drinking but I just went and fixed myself a stiff Brown Cow (Kahlua and milk...yumm). Stress...lol. I have oyster shells out for them. In the morning I will crush up the Tums for her. And if it comes back out, I will be promptly be soaking her. I already have the Epsom salts out and ready to go.

Thank you for asking. I couldn't believe it but she was acting like just another day at the office. I'm still keeping her on her own side in the coop but she can still see her buddies. She had a piece of poop stuck to her feathers, so I know she pooped. I was shocked that the prolapse didn't come back out. I read that you should take the feed away during the day and just offer water until evening...so that hopefully she doesn't lay an egg today. I have on hand a bottle of Triple C antibiotic from Vetafarm, for ornamental birds. Is anyone familiar with this antibiotic? I bought it so I had something in case of, well, who knows what. It says for all ornamental birds. I'm going to google how much to feed my girl. That's my big concern...the fact that I cut the membrane and put it back in. Worried about infection. Sorry for the long post. Just worried about her...

I'm glad she is doing good today!

@casportpony may be familiar with the Vetafarm Triple C, I am not.
Personally, I might get some Amoxicillin and treat her with that since you snipped the reproductive tract to get the egg out - it may be more effective than a "cycline" to prevent infection. But...I would see what Kathy thinks too.

Well, all is still well but this is only the end of the first day. She has her antibiotics and hopefully she heals from me snipping the membrane:fl . I just so wish that I had known what this was so that I could treat it properly. Only time will tell and we will see how tomorrow goes. Goodnight everyone...
