We found 1 of out little australorp pullets in the coop, on her side today. when we picked her up to put her on the ground she was walking on her "knee" with her leg extended out in front of her. her upper leg seems to be working fine, she draws it back & everything but from the knee down its not mobile. her toes are even limp. We had to bandage her wings to the side because shes scratched them bloody, to the bone i think. so not they are drooping down also.

She seems healthy otherwise, eating fine not making a lot of noise & falling asleep when we're holding her. I just don't know what could have happened. i do know it wasnt a rat or anything, theyre in the coop all night with the door closed & there isn't any marks on her leg at all.

I really appreciate any help, We've had horrible luck with the Australorps this year

It almost looks like there's been some sort of trauma to the hock. Is it swollen compared to the other one?

How did she scratch her wings? Did she have an accident or fall?

Can you isolate her in a quiet, darkened place with plenty of food and water?

They are the same size, if anything the injured one feels smaller or limp compared to the other leg. I am assuming that she scratched them up when she was trying to stand up and couldnt. the bend in her wings are down to bone almost. She went with us everywhere yesterday, to town & everything. She ate and drank just fine too. I'm totally stumped..
