Shirley, a 3.5 week old Wyandotte hatchery chick. This batch has been inside the house in their brooder box with a brooder heat panel. I have them on Scratch and Peck brand chick starter. I removed the heat a few days ago because I had plans to move them outside today. Got them all moved out and settled and noticed after everyone else was at the feeder Shirley was just sleeping while standing. I decided to bring her and a friend back inside and put the heater back on. She pecked at the food a little bit and is now under the brooder. Her crop is not full, no pasty butt. I did notice we forgot to turn the a.c. off last night and it was probably about 69 degrees in the house. Added an electrolyte powder to the water. Not sure what else to do or what is going on. It did seem like the whole bunch was quieter/sleepier this morning but seem pretty normal now.

She has improved slightly but because I noticed a few of the others doing the same thing I started them on Corid. Her poops look okay, some dark red but I think it is the cecal shedding because it was all sort of attatched to a translucent thread.

Just confirming since most electrolyte poultry mixes contain vitamins, specifically thiamine (B1).

Coccia have a high requirement for thiamine (B1), and Corid works by blocking the thiamine in their body thus starving the Coccia of their needed nutrients if you were to add a vitamin poultry mix while treating you would basically be working against the effectiveness of Corid. So don't use a vitamin mix whilst treating.

If she still seems off, you can give her a jumpstart by dripping a few drops onto the side of her beak using plain undiluted corid.

I tried some of the Scratch and Peck Feed recently, and my chickens would not eat it. They can sometimes pick out the parts they like, and not get all of the vitamins and minerals they need. So, I would make sure they are eating it all. I prefer to use a crumble that contains everything in one piece. Hopefully the heat will help. Look for not eating, runny poops, standing puffed up, and lethargy in case of coccidiosis. Corid (amprollium) from the feed store will treat that.

Glad she's doing a little better. When you get a chance, take some photos of their poop.

Keep us posted.

I thought of that too, just picking out what they like but they seem to be eating it down and I have a separate batch being hen raised in the same feed that are bouncing all around and healthy. Kind of wishing I'd just given her all these chicks but though 17 for a first timer would be a bit much.

Right! I did switch from the vit/elecrolyte powder over to just Corid diluted in the water. She is drinking so I am happy about that.

Here are a couple photos. I brought more of them back in and gave them each a couple drops of undiluted Corid. Hope they perk back up soon.

Everyone has improved today. Moving around more, eating and making noise! Yay! I think I learned my lesson, to either use medicated food or nipple waterers with a larger clutch.
