I have coturnix quail that are on day 22 of incubation. I have see nothing so I was going to pull them and do e-topsy to see why none hatched. I pipped the aircell side to see if it had internally pipped and it hasn't, but the "sack" seems to be formed to the chicks. So, I pip the sack where I see a beak and the chicks are alive!!! What do I do?? I'm worried the lining has dried to all the chicks but they are alive and I don't want to kill them. Do you think it's possible they will still hatch?? I put them back in the bator as well as the one I pipped and its still opening it's beak, so I know it's still alive. I'm just stunned bcuz they were suppose to hatch 4 days ago. Please help I don't know weather to leave them or assist!?!

The chick I pipped is still alive and now I have seen two other eggs moving! What the heck??!! I sure hope they hatch but day 22 seriously? I has chicken eggs in with them that hatched when they were suppose to so wondering if when I opened to bator for the chicken eggs it lowered the temp enough that it slowed them down? Only thing I can figure cuz coturnix going this long is crazy!

I don't know what you should do as the only chicks I have helped were ones that were already piped and I have never hatched quails.

I really hope everything works out.

Well I decided to pip the others and all of them had the inner lining dried to them, so I'm guess my humidity fluctuated too much. They aren't quite ready to come out as there are still blood vessels but I have 4 that are breathing air w a little more than their beaks out/showing. Had one peep but still touch and go if these will even make it. :-( I'm watching closely and adding a little rubbed warm water when needed to keep the rest of the lining moist. Hate this but they surely would have died other wise. Down to three...one stopped breathing. I just removed the egg to see and the yolk was almost absorbed. Ugh please let these three make it :-(

I have read this twice it always helps me. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching the development most likely did slow down a bit because of a drop in temp. If any of the dried up membranes looked like the veins had fully receded when you dampened them with warm water then you might have to assist those. I think you might have a few hatch but if not these things sometimes happen when it comes to temp and humidity, its not your fault :) hope this helps

Just make sure your not opening the bator to much aswell (i know its hard) veins do take a wile to recede sometimes.

I have posted your thread in a few other ones which have people a bit more experienced then me with quail eggs i hope it helps.

I think this is perfect advice, you have done what you feel you should have, it sounds as though they had gotten shrink wrapped, assisting is a slow process and one I am not familiar with as far as quail. If they are anything like tiny serama, you must NOT let them bleed.
