Next time you will be ready w the non slip mat at lockdown 
I also put it over the shavings in the brooder for the first few days w my ducklings and poults. I have a few for the brooder, so I can pull one, swap out the bedding, put new shavings down, cover w the new/ clean mat, and clean the spare. And I make sure they have baby grit available in case they try to eat the shavings.
