MilotheQuail
In the Brooder
Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to taking care of quail, so I'm not very familiar with what is normal.
Recently, I've noticed my pet Coturnix quail has been favoring one of her feet a little more than the other--sometimes she seems to limp, other times she walks totally fine. She also seems to be resting more by sitting all the way down on her hocks rather than on just one foot like usual. Is this normal? When I turned her over, I noticed that the foot she keeps up has a small wart-like-bump on the toe. Her enclosure has a concrete floor, but I have also put down cloths, wood planks, and tubs of dirt and sand. It's also her first winter outside this year; it doesn't get colder than freezing point but she's also a loner. I've treated her in the past with triple antibiotic ointment for a mild case of bumblefoot, but she's since healed and this time it doesn't look like bumblefoot. Otherwise, she seems pretty happy. Overall, it doesn't seem too severe, but should I be worried? What should I do?

As you can see, there's a little bump on the toe, looks a little like a boil. I rubbed a little ointment on it in case it helps, but I don't know if it will. The other black marks I think are dirt, but it's not washed off easily.
Also, what is the best way to inspect the bottom of a quail's foot without stressing her out too much by yourself?
