Yesterday I had my very first egg pip somewhere in between 11:30 and 2:30. There was no progress from then until 6:30pm. When went to the drive in and came home about 2:30 and it looked liked it started zipping but it is in the middle of the egg with its beak out. Woke up about half an hour ago and there is another that has pipped and almost zipped toward the big end of the egg but still no advancement from egg one. Its beak is still out and it is moving some. I'm wondering if this egg is ok. I've never had eggs hatch, my last attempt failed. I know it can take up to 48 hours but am wondering if it needs help since it is zipping in the middle of the egg. If I can figure it out ill post a picture.

My eggs last year pipped anywhere from the middle to near the end and some took forever to progress. In fact, my first pip hatched well after the second and third chicks hatched completely. They seemed to move along faster as more chicks were moving about the bator.

I had 12 eggs last year. One infertile, one ate quitter. Of the remaining 10, all hatched fine.

Many chicks of mine have hatched successfully and most of them have zipped through the middle. Sometimes the zipping process can take up to 24-hours or longer to hatch fully. I would just wait it out.

Thank you for the answer. My last batch none of them hatched. Today is just now day 21. I know they say they can take awhile. The other one seems to be determined to get out. Out of 12 eggs 2 had detached air cells, 2 started weeping, and the other 2 quit. The last 6 are in there now with 2 of them trying to make their way out. I'm hoping the others will follow soon. I had seen rocking from all of them.

Thank you. I'm not touching anything until it hasn't made progress for awhile. Ill be gone most of the day for my DD soccer games so it will help with temptation. Lol

Mine are being brooded by Mama Hen, and we have been taking the chicks away from her as soon as they hatch, because we want her to stay on the remaining eggs. Two of the eggs pipped, but were not zipping, so we brought them in and saw they were starting to shrink wrap, so I got out the tweezers, a warm wet paper towel to moisten the membrane. They came out fine, put them under the heat lamp to fluff out, then put them with their siblings. Last year I had two the pipped & never zipped, and did not know till it was too late.
Good Luck with your chicks.
