Help quick bloody poop and chick very ill Please? UPDATE

It's more important, right now, to get a drop or two of sulmet water in it's beak every hour or so. They can go longer without food than they can water. When ready to try feeding it, I make scrambled egg, and get a tiny pinch and put it in front of beak, just like I do the water, and the chick will normally chew/swallow it. But, for now, especially since it was eating this morning, just try and get some fluids in it.

I agree with Ruth..the Sulmet water is important for now.
hopefully as it gets the med..it will perk up and want to eat.

don't give dog food..it's more carbs then protein.
a little egg is better..

the Poly-vi-sol will help with appetite..but get the Sulmet in as Ruth suggested.

fingers crossed for the little roo.

it is still alive but barely. it has pooped 3 times and every time it was white diareah with blood. it can't even hold its little head up. last night about 11:30 I went to give it some more sulmet water before I went to bed and I was watching it and it had what looked like a seizure. I thought it was sure gone but it held on. Dh and I gave it somemore when we got up at 4. I don't know sometimes I think all I am doing is making it suffer but I don't want to lose it

I'm so sorry. You did everything you could - sometimes we just can't save them. I would, however, make sure the rest of the batch of chicks are on Sulmet for 4-5 days.

I am giving the rest of them sulmet still I will for 5 days that it what it says on the bottle.
thanks everyone, so far the others are acting just fine I hope I don't lose anymore. about 2 hours before it died I got it to drink 100 units of the sulmet water via syringe. the poor little thing we tried so hard I was trying to give it water at least 1 an hour all night long it was just too sick, but I just don't understand it was fine yesterday morning up running around and eating and drinking just fine then yesterday evening it was down. but we had seen the bloody poo in the brooder for about 4 days I told dh I thought they had cocci but he insisted that they didn't well the next time I see bloody poo it is straight for the sulmet I won't wait til another one dies!

Yes, by the time you see bloody poop they are pretty sick. I have learned to watch for the subtle signs before such as:

Sitting under heat lamp instead of running around
Ruffled feathers
Drawn in head/neck
Lethargic

I have learned to watch for the signs. Healthy chicks, especially at 3-4 weeks old, almost never huddle together under the light or sleep the day away. If they are not running around eating and playing and they start to huddle or get ruffled feathers, I start them on Sulmet right away. I've had four batches in a row get Cocci or whatever is causing these signs and the bloody poop and death. It's only been the hatches I've been raising this winter and keeping in bins and hutches. Normally I turn them loose to free range starting at about a week old, no lights, nothing and I've never had a chick get sick or die. This winter I've been taking all precautions and babying them and they have all gotten sick. I just put a batch out today to start free ranging because they are three weeks old and have been showing the signs and I've had them on Sulmet. I've found the best thing to do is to turn them loose and then they seem to get well immediately - go figure.

I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your chick, chickabator. I hope the rest of your chicks are OK.
