Hey all; my chickens are about 10-11 wks old now...
I have several that flew the coop today during construction time and I cant get them to get back in the brooder..they are hiding and we are missing 4 of them..
frost warning for the night and its freezing cold out..

we've found almost all of the ones that we couldnt corral today..but we had to leave 7 of them to leave to go to town; thinking that they'd come to the heat lamp we have on the side of the porch and pile of food..

nope..instead 2 went to hide in a bush..we got them..
1 went in a small tree..we got her...
we see one under my porch; cant get to her..she's completely unreachable..but alone...heat lamp is near her but she wont budge...

the other 3 are no where to be found...

will they be ok overnight w/frost warnings w/no shelter except what they find? ie; bush, plant, etc??

or should I keep looking???

Do they respond to treats? They might all be asleep already and not paying attention...

Hopefully they're all together and keep each other warm.

Good luck!

One of our 6 week old chicks ran away, and we finally bribed her in with oats. our chicks would also do anything for the yolk of hard boiled egg, or yogurt. good luck!

Im saying if its cold, put a heat lamp out.. maybe whatever you used as a brooder.. ?? They should come to the heat lamp I would think..

well we have a pile of food by the heat lamp...at an exit point from under the porch just in case they are super good hiders...

no, they dont respond to treats yet... ugh...they usually run from them! LOL

I think you are doing everything you can. Between the heat lamp and treats. I think they should come right? I have my 10 week old out and about during the day. The are confused at night and I have to put them in the coop. It has only been 51 here at night. But if you don't have a lot of predators, they will survive the cold. 10-12 weeks is pretty old.

Good Luck

Have you found them? DOn't give up yet. We had four chicks go missing the first day we put them out in the coop. One came home the next day. Two the next. I had given the final one up for dead and the neighbor kids found her FIVE days later hiding in their garage! She looks great. It hasn't been freezing here but cold enough and my chicks are only 4.5 weeks. Keep us posted!

update: Yes; we got them all...
and tonight they are all staying in their coop for the first time...

they DONT like it..they are squawking like nuts!

Hoping that the run is done within the next few days...!!! That way they can be out and I dont have to worry about them..

AND just in case it isnt done...Brian (hubby) fixed the porch areas they were getting under ..so now they cant!!
