A few months ago (July time) I went away on holiday for a week and when I returned my family informed me that they had found one of my birds dead that morning. This bird did have complications with her legs not forming properly so she always walked a bit weird but other than that she was getting around fine, eating good and laying eggs. We assumed it was a complication from her leg issues and left it at that.
Then today, I am away from home and I get a text saying one of my males had suddenly died. He’s always been rather healthy, no problems and was apparently found Led down with short of breath this morning and died shortly after. Both of these instances happened when I wasn’t there so I can’t really give a personal account of what happened. Could these deaths be linked? Could this be a disease? For context they were both kept in the same hutch when the first one died however obviously it has been months in between. Or could this just be bad genetics? As we fear where we got them from They experienced very bad conditions as we had to cull another female for similar leg problems. One of our other females from there has bent and unsightly toes but the other male and female are fine. So I just wonder did my Male die of a disease or was it just bad genes? Thank you.

I would consult with your state extension office to see if a necropsy can be obtained on the carcass. The first with a congenital leg issue should not have contributed to it's death.
That could be revealing...for sure.
