Texas Hill Country
Are these face & beak color changes normal, or am I right to be concerned? Buff Orpington, 10 weeks old today.
She's eating & behaving normally. It's been hot here in Texas Hill Country (94 degrees today).
I greatly appreciate any & all the help I can get, so THANK YOU!

Completely normal. She's going through chicken puberty right now, so expect to see changes in you girls. :)
But the pale color you're seeing may be because of the heat, when they relax, they tend to go pale.

What changes are you asking about?

She looks healthy and since she is eating and drinking I wouldn’t worry too much.
Thank you!!
I was worried about discoloration in her beak (& the black forming on the base of it it), as well as the skin changes on her face. They have been pale pink, but brightening up & "texturizing" for lack of another word. I was afraid scaly face mites may be to blame & wanted to get a more informed opinion before ordering the Elector PSP since I thought "treatment" last week wasn't working.
Ok, so don't laugh...or do, I won't ever know! & I do feel really silly, even stupid right now.
Here goes:
My poor girls' faces (I have doubts about one...but I digress) were looking inflammed & dry & a few were scratching at their faces...so of course I Googled & did some browsing on this site.
As a result, I dusted their coop & run last week w/Garden & Poultry dust, a Permethrin product I bought at local feed store & then poor things all got an unappreciated spa day. 🙄
& that's after my husband's face was also a bit red after having to help catch 6 unwilling patients (or should I now call them "victims") in a 264 ft run.
I rinsed their legs w/water & used a soft toothbrush on each. I cleaned flesh area of their faces with a wet q-tip & then used the unused end to apply castor oil to "smother the mites". I then applied some castor oil to their legs also ("just in case") & finished each chicken by applying a drop of pour on Ivermectin.
Due for the follow up round & was thinking of going ahead & ordering Elector PSP to have on hand in the future.
And it turns out it's just chicken puberty?!?! Please pray for these poor things who are at the mercy of an overzealous Chicken Mom who may be suffering from her own empty nest & has too much time on her hands! 🤦‍♀️ & absolutely NOT making any mention of this to my poor hubby! Well, other than to tell him he's off the hook for Round 2.
I'm attaching pics of what she & a couple others looked like last week just in case it helps me save face at all.

Guess pun's intended.
Please pray for me! & even more so for these babies!!
Lesson learned here is don't worry about thinking you're asking something stupid: ASK beforehand so you don't actually play the part & DO something stupid.
THANK YOU so much for your help & for saving these babies from something unnecessary! & my husband would thank you, too, if he ever knew! 😉

THANK YOU!!! & I really should have asked sooner!
My poor girls...I was worried because that pale pink was being replaced by bright pink in the BOs, along w/beak coloration changes, & I treated them unecessarily for scaly face mites. 🤦‍♀️

Not completely unnecessary, now if they did, you treated them early! ;)
