Help!!! RIR & Barred Rock

hehehe, thank you all!! Nicole love the pic of yours, you are right, shiny feathers! I was so happy to see that!! philbfarm, thank you for the pics as well, yes I was hoping the BR's was bigger due to its breed. Wishing4Wings, I love my little BR, it snuggles!!!! Its something to catch though. I was wondering if there was an easier way to get them to come to you, besides food, thats the easiest :) As soon as I bend down to pick them up, they scatter, they know they are either going inside or outside, hehe!

I don't generally try to pick them up because nobody seems to like it and I don't want them to be afraid of me. People have commented that as pullets get closer to laying, they will often become more friendly. We'll see.

If I need to look someone over, I'll pull her off the roost at night. Mostly I think the chickens see us as very large food dispensers. My girls come running whenever I go out, food or no food, but they always have that hopeful gleam in their eyes. In the past, I've had individuals that liked to perch on my shoulder, but that was usually to try to grab the sandwich I was eating! I don't mind be "used" for my food. Pretty soon they're going to feed me back! Impatiently awaiting eggs.

hehe, I agree!! I cant wait for them to start laying eggs, there are 6 people and kids in my house, so we go through at least $10 a week just in eggs !! Now I just need a cow and a few goats! :)
