Help! Roo flogging my 8 yr old!

we have almost 40 chickens in our backyard, they're all about 8 months old. My son has a EE roo that started chasing him and kicking him yesterday and today. He only does it when Kam picks up one of our little banty roo's. (he loves the chickens!) Yesterday he chased and kicked him and he had to jump on the ladder of his playset to escape him. As soon as he put the bantem roo down, he left my son alone. Why is this roo doing this? Do you think he'll get worse and begin attacking him even when he's not holding another chicken? I'm at a loss! I need to know if I need to get rid of this roo before he hurts my boy.

I have a similar probablem. Yesterday out of the blue or rooster started that with my six year old when he was feeding them scratch. He tried a few more times when my son had his back turned. Hasn't done it with anyone else. Not sure what to do.

I have a red pyle roo that does that to my 9yr old DD so now she carries a broom and just sweeps him away!
But she wont turn her back on him either.

The roo is showing his dominance within the pecking order. Unfortunately your son happens to be thought of as part of that pecking order. The only way of possibly stopping it is for your son to establish his dominance over the roo. Depending on how big your son is and how big the roo is in comparison the best way I know of is to accompany your son into the pen. Have him do what he normally does when the roo tries to attack. As the roo charges at him give the roo a good boot. The roo may come back so repeat with another good boot. The roo will finally get the hint that he does not dominate your son. If the roo continues this attack action then I would have him for dinner. They say "The meaner the rooster, the better they taste." A rooster will usually try to establish his dominance about every three months or so. If your son can establish dominance over the roo then it will be easier the next time to do it. We have 17 full grown roos and all of them know that we are the top of the pecking order. And most of them can be held and cuddled.

wow! I was so careful to pick non- aggressive breeds! This EE my son has, I did'nt want. He followed me around with him at the farmers coop begging to keep it. How could I say no? I was hoping it'd be a hen so he'd get some cool colored eggs... My luck!

My silver spangled hamburg was doing this too. He is in "time out" in the porch in a dog crate. Not sure what to do either. I hate to get rid of him, but at first he was doing what yours was. Only when he was near the other chickens, but then he started doing it ALL the time and to everyone who entered the yard. It stinks, we have had him for a year and a half. This only started a couple months ago.
