Help! Roo killed a 3 month old chic

At 3 months old... I'm guessing it was a cockerel and the rooster wasn't taking his advances.

EE cockerels have been some of my least favorite.

I'd probably invite him to dinner, especially if there's another incident. :drool

Also, at 3 months... they aren't really chicks anymore. More like hormone enraged idiots.

Wish I could agree that there must have been a problem... I seriously doubt it was anything other than competition.

Sorry for your loss. :(
So do you your EE cockerels ever calm down within time? I have two boys right now who have already started but the breeding and chasing at only 12 weeks.

They all calm down a bit if I let them grow out in my stag pen. At 12 weeks old their hormones are really raging, especially with so many daylight hours right now. I have had several start mating antics even younger, closer to 8 weeks. Even though I haven't been fond of EE cockerels (attitude towards me)... each is an individual. I've had a breeding program in place so no EE has actually made it past freezer camp here... BUT definitely, given the chance some cockerels will mature into fantastic roosters... eventually. :fl

Wow, my cockerels are side winging me right now but I’m gonna give them time. One has stopped and calmed down and is shaping up, even though he’s 3 months. He already shows signs of actually being a good boy, I think he's gonna turn out right, but his brother, that’s a different story.
