Help, roo or hen?

I have another question. Our girls were very good layers every day...since we got this maran the egg laying dwindled down to nothing....only on occasion do our young silkies lay an egg....is there any reason or effect these girls knew it was a rooster and it affected them or is that just not a cause....they stay away from him but we just always thought it was because “she” was last one on the block, not knowing it was a roo.....i have Easter egger, amerecauna,RIR, dominique, buff, 2 silkies

Having a rooster does not increase or decrease egg production... unless he’s really terrorizing the hens and stressing them out badly. This time of year is commonly molting time, plus the daylight is decreasing, that could be the cause of the decrease in laying. Mine have recently decreased from laying every day or every other day to maybe 2-3 times a week on average.
