Hi!
I went outside to shut the coop door from the run today (usually my chickens free range but itwas raining today) and I picked up one of my favorite chickens (she is a hen) and notice the smallest red spot on her and it look like blood. So I looked up and I saw my rooster covered in blood from his comb. It was dripping. Every other chicken was in perfect condition and none missing. I didn’t see any sign of any predator entry or foot prints around the run/coop ( we have the run and coop fenced with floors and roof and then a second fence around that) The picture attached to this was after I cleaned it up, applied peroxide and then baking soda and neosporen. I checked on all the chickens at 2-3 o’clock when I put them away because it started raining. We have 24 chickens and ONLY ONE is a rooster. So we have no idea what happened and he was not bleeding at 2-3 (I put them away at 5:30/6:00pm) We separated him and out I’m him in his own run in the garage with food and water and a small roosting bar. Do I need to do anything else? Do you think he will be okay? Do I need to wrap it? How long should I isolate him for so the hens don’t pick at it? Any ideas what happened?! Do hens attack roosters?!
