I've had the hen which is my rooster's mom for over a year or more and he just started attacking her this week. I dont want her to get hurt and he so beautiful i dont want to hurt him either, why is he doing this? How do I get him to stop. All I have is 2 hens and the rooster. He doesn't fool with the other hen.

He does not know she is his mother, she is just another hen to him. Sounds like separating them for a while (or permanently) might be the best way to protect your hen. Sometimes roosters in small flocks have more, er, energy than just two hens can handle. He might be frustrated with just two and may do better in a bigger flock of about 10 hens. Is your run big enough for you to put barriers in that she can hide behind to get away from him?

Thank you for the information and we have separated the 2 hens from the rooster. We will see after a week how he does toward her. Their home is covered and he will be covered but sides are more open than where the hens are. He dont know how good he had it! 😢 Ill let you know next weekend!

Excellent. It may not solve the problem permanently but at least it is managing it so as to protect your hen. You say this rooster is a year old?

Update: I have kept them seperated for 2 days, but at night the rooster finds his way back with her to perch. I watched her tonight and she wanted to be with him..gets under him until he starts pecking her then they rousel to the ground. I am afraid he is going to hurt her really bad..just don't know...I may have to build another cage that doesn't connect to hers. Will it hurt him if he lives alone permanently?

The run is attached to another area where they eat and I didnt think he would jump higher than I had blocked off.
