Help! Rooster tore off his spur and quick!!

I just found that my rooster somehow managed to tear off his whole spur, as well as the quick. There is absolutely nothing left. I have no idea what happened. I put cornstarch on it to stop the bleeding, but there is now a big, open wound on his leg. What do I do? How do I treat it? How do I protect the wound from the other chickens?

How old is this bird? How big a spur? Generally the spur comes off, and the bony part stays with the bird. Some bleeding and pain, okay in a few hours or by the next day.

He is a little over 1 year old.
His spurs aren't huge yet, as they are still growing. I would say maybe 1 1/4 inches? I can measure his remaining spur though.
I'll get a picture right now.

So, the spur is about 1 1/8 inches. The tips aren't even pointy yet, so they're definitely not done growing yet.

I would make sure to keep it clean. Neosporin without pain relief. Check it multiple times a day until it scabs over to make sure flies don't lay eggs in it. I would leave it unwrapped.

I would watch them. If you get the neosporin on it will help prevent that as they won't see the red. I recently had a chick who got attacked by one of my hens and her chickmates never pecked at the red wound. If they do begin to peck you could loosely wrap it but I think it will heal faster not being wrapped.

Ouch!
Agree with the above, although you might need to wrap it (carefully!) if the birds won't leave it alone. And maggots are a very big issue!
