Hello and thank you in advance for your help! One of our larger hens has a limb on her right leg, she is visibly limping but we can't find the problem. Background: a few weeks ago we had a similar issue with another lady who sadly didn't make it. I really don't want this to keep happening. Can anyone help tell me what might be the issue, could it be due to the height of their roosts in the coop? or is this another issue, I just know that it happening to two birds isn't a coincidence. Also what is the best care for her, separate and keep in a cat carrier to restrict movement and hope it heels???

Please help, especially if you have experienced something similar.

The following can cause lameness:

Heat stress
Bacterial infection
Slipped tendon
Bruised tissue
Inflamed sciatic nerve

To rule out the simple, give electrolyes for 24 hours. Give "baby" 81 grain aspirin twice a day into the beak whole. Keep inactive for 24 hours.

Bacterial infection is usually accompanied by loose stools with mucous. Inflamed sciatic nerve may indicate an avian virus (not treatable)
