I just went out to check my chickens and one of my 12 week old easter eggers got into the pen with my adult chickens. One of them pecked her so much that she has no feathers on her head! Is this normal to attack so violently? The one who did it is a Buff Orpington who is the low chicken in the pecking order of the adults. Now Im afraid to ever put them all together!

Poor girl! Yes, pecking order stuff can get nasty like that, unfortunately.

For the wound, go ahead and wash it out with saline solution if you have it, or if not just flush it with water. Then apply some neosporin for now. I would recommend you also try to get ahold of something called Derma Clens. I've been using it for years ever since a vet recommended it to me for a drake that got scalped by a predator. It helps stimulate new skin growth.

happened to my quail too a while back. whatever you do dont separate because it will cause problems later on.

Thanks for the advice, I never thought they would be that mean to each other! Have you ever seen one get killed?

I haven't had it happen but it does happen :( A friend of mine recently tried to put three new pullets in with her older hens and they killed two of them.

I do slow introductions with the 'look-but-don't-touch' method and usually do it when they're young and not a 'threat' to the older hens, and so far that has worked well.

no but it got pretty bad. I was forced to separate her or she would have died. we got rid of the flock but i kept her because she was rejected. she is fully rehabilitated now and my "pet"

My Chickens do that to I found PICK NO MORE cover up lotion will work the best! It will stop the other chickens from pecking her. They will not like the taste and will stop. It is not harmful to the other chickens at all.
Good luck!
