I have a Partridge Cochin hen, about 8 months old, that may have scaly leg mites. They don’t look as bad as other cases I have seen photos of, and it’s a bit harder to tell since she has feathers on her legs. I started noticing that her index toe doesn’t lay flat when she walks (rolls outwards), can’t run as fast as the others, itches her head a lot, and has more built up poop on her butt feathers, although these may have nothing to do with scaly leg. If anyone could identify for me in the photos, it would be greatly appreciated! I know somewhat of how to treat it but if anyone has any tips that would be great. We have two other birds, both Dark Brahmas. Keep in mind that she has feather feet and she loves to dig in the dirt, which explain her dirty nails and some dark spots by her feet.

They look a bit dry, it won't hurt to work some oil or vaseline into and under the scales of the feet.

If she's scratching her head, then gather her up and inspect her. Look for lice/mites - her head, neck, under the wings, around the vent. If you find bugs and are in the US, you can use a Permethrin based poultry spray or dust to treat her, your flock and the coop.

For poop buildup, clean up her bum. Some hens are extremely fluffy and that accumulates poop, sometimes trimming the fluff can help.
If possible, take a poop sample to your vet for a fecal float.

Her being slow - does she lay eggs?
