I've got 1x1" welded on the sides, chicken wire buried under the dirt run, and chicken wire topping it. The leaves do gather and I use an electric leaf blower while the ladies are locked in the coop to go in and blow off the leaves from underneath. Seems to work ok. Have fun with the chickens! (My cousin lives in Hebron and is also building a coop...small world)
