Ok so went to visit my friend and her gorgeous new coop. Saw the 9 week old babies that she has... have some suspicious roo like chicks here.
Both are rocks mixes, one has some brown and one has some black mixed with the white. ?

I know some of you have swedish flower hens, i think that is what this is... is it a roo or hen and do I have the breed correct?

another shot of the mature white rock mix and this mutt...any thoughts on the mutt?

And this... I am 99% positive is a roo... it came out of an egg labeled polish. I would say silkie mix myself but maybe polish mix...who knows... thinking roo!

last picture...
barred rock...what is it roo or pullet?
thanks

To me all of them look like pullets except the white one in the back in the first picture..

Thanks Brair... these are all the ones she thought could be roos...I think the swedish flower and the not so polish one are rooster like...not sure on the others. I could take some more guesses here!!

Well when our hens were younger they looked like roos.. You wont really know until they lay an egg! But our Production reds have decent sized combs.. Our one leghorn we thought was a rooster until she started laying huge white eggs.

Here is her and her comb

Although I think at nine weeks the swedish flower would have a redder comb if she was a roo. I have a 6-7 week old roo (well I think so) He already has a red comb, started growing it when he was about 2 1/2 weeks old.. His legs are like tree trunks and he is about twice the size of his hatch mate/half brother/sister.

His comb is larger and more red now than it was when I took this picture.

I'm not having many responses to guess the genders on my mixed breed chicks, too.

Here's my guesses:
photo 1 - white w/ red = roo; white w/ black = pullet?
photo 2 - that's quite a big comb, but I'd say it's pink, not bright red; some of my roos that are two weeks younger have redder combs; I'd say the Swedish Flower could go either way
photo 3 - I'd say that mutt is a roo given the redness and size of comb
photo 4 - I'd say it's a polish mix and a roo, too
photo 5 - barred rock - hard to tell from that angle - a side head shot would be better; it looks pink, but not bright red; it could still be a roo, though
