I bought two supposed female black copper marans chicks just over two weeks ago. I’m already beginning to think one is a male so for now his name is “Hefner”. haha His comb is already growing and turning pink. I hung a feather duster in the brooder for them to go under and he likes to chest-butt it and peck at the plastic handle like Mr. Tough Guy. He also has fewer tail feathers than his sister, “Repeckah”. He’s slower growing and doesn’t eat as much. I’ll attach their picture with “Hef” in the front. I really don’t want a crowing rooster, but he’s got a great personality so far. What do y’all think?
you've got to get that on video! Your description did make me laugh! I'm not familiar with Marans but hopefully someone else can advise you. It does have rather a prominent comb for one so young.
