So long post sorry! I have an 8 month old female emu who has been fine up until about a week ago. She was slightly quite just over a week ago, nothing too noticeable but was fine the next day so didn't worry too much about it. Fast forward a few days so isn't really eating just pecking, still grooming and wandering around, but seems hunched and holds her neck slightly lower than normal or tucked into body. Today seems worse, keeps sitting down, hunched eith head tucked in and whilst friendly she let me grab and restrain her without any issues which is not like her. She does wander every now and then with the others but doesn't run, she walks slowly and stiff, not interested in food. Anyone have any ideas or experienced this? I really don't want to loose her, my vets aren't much help as they have never dealt with an emu before. I have syringed some oil and vitamins into her incase its an impacted gizzard or something similar. They only thing I can think of is the weather has been horrible here, wet and cold and they don't alway use the shelter so wondering if she has gotten sick? Breathing seems fine, no discharge. Do you think some antibiotics could help? She walks slightly hunched as if in pain, no idea what to do.
