I got 3 three week old chicks from a chicken swap on Saturday. One of them, the smallest, has seemed lethargic since we got her though she’s eaten and drank water just fine. This morning I went out to the pen and she was on her side, eyes closed. I thought she was dead! But she was breathing. She shook her head a few times too. She seems very poorly. I don’t know if she’ll make it. Could this be coccidiosis? How can I treat her? I called all the local exotic vets with no luck, everyone was full. I was thinking I’d dose her with Corid and electrolytes. Any suggestions?

If you can give some nutridrench or electrolytes sav-a-chick in water that might perk her up. Is she pooping?
I’m getting save a chick together now to give her. I don’t know if she’s pooping. I haven’t seen her poop.

Can you separate her for a while to monitor her? If you have a dog crate it can be used temporarily. You can put paper towels or towels down to look at the poop. Poops can tell us a lot.

Yes I’m separating her. Im syringe feeding her save a chick right now. I’ll put her in a crate with paper towels when I’m done. Do you think I should dose corid?

She passed away :( what should I do with the other two chicks? Should I treat them somehow?

Oh I’m so sorry! How are the others acting? I don’t know much about Corid dosing but you can search it on this site to find out if it’s necessary. Lots of info here. But I would consider to get some more chicks of similar age, people recommend at least 4 chickens. If something happens to another chick then there is only 1 and chickens can’t live alone. :hugs

no, not yet. if you want, get the smallest amount first, just in case. give her electrolytes and wait till she poops. the small corid bag is so even is she doesn't have it, you didn't spend a lot of money for the medicine. but in the case she does have it, you can administer the medicine to her right away. feed the electrolytes, though.

My chicks seem to have coccidiosis but they are managing fine. I ordered Corid and its supposed to come this friday. I used save-a-chick electrolytes and probiotics. Sorry for your loss.:(
