HELP! sick chick opens and closes mouth, eyes closed

With the open mouth breathing its respiratory,Is it's nostrils clean and open? Can you hear a clicking sound when it breathes as you hold it to your ear? Abdomen swelled or skin blue?

I had a problem with my chicks that was similar. They opened their mouth repeatedly and kind of looked like they were gagging. They also sometimes shook their heads. One round of terramyacin cleared it up. I lost two before I gave them antibiotics. I hope that yours clears up.

Here's the report:

My chick is still alive. Last night he was making a lot of noise; I came out, he pooped (watery) and then started eating. That was a good sign, I think.

This morning, he still alive and I gave him some water with a syringe. I went to the store and bought terramycin. It took me forever (45 minutes) to figure out how much to mix up for one little bird! I'm still not sure I got it right, but I'm pretty sure it's not too concentrated.

Does anyone know how much to use? The dosage is 200 -400 mg per gallon. My digital scale measures down to 5 grams... which I figured was enough for 12.5 gallons. I wish the pkg would say "Use 1/4 tsp per 2 gallons of water" or something like that.

He's still opening and closing his mouth. His nostrils look swollen. They seem clean. Skin is pinkish. Abdomen looks normal. I hear a clicking sound when he breathes, but it might be his mouth opening and closing. He'll open/close his mouth 5 times or so and then he chirps (trills? phoenix style).

This might sound crazy, but I thought I saw a little bit of green down his throat when I was dripping water in. That can't be normal, can it?

Let's hope he pulls through!
