My chicks are 2 weeks old now. Tonight I was outside and spotted a small caterpillar on my apple tree. It was only about a quarter of an inch long, and I couldn't resist.
I dropped it into the brooder with my babies. One of my Barred Rocks swallowed it down. Now about an hour later when she lays down, she tips over onto her side and kicks.
Aimost like she's drunk. When I open the top to pick her up, she jumps up and runs from me, which is nornal. She is eating with the others.
Did I make a fatal mistake?

I'm not sure whats happening. Do you have some grit to give the chicks. I have given my young ones worms before and all was ok. How is the chick now?

I don't have any grit. I was told they don't need it until they are eating grass and adult food.
Right now, she's sleeping with the others. My wife says don't worry, she'll be fine.
Neither of us have ever raised chicken before.

Yes, its true, normally they do not need grit if they are eating chick starter. I have given mine worms without giving them grit, but I also let mine out to play in the dirt and take dirt baths. Your wife is probably right, the chick will be fine. Maybe the caterpillar was wiggling inside the chick and it felt funny.

She seems to be fine this morning. It was really strange. Almost like she was loosing her ability to stand.
No more insects until they're older!

Thanks
