Help!! Sick Chicken - May not live through night

He liked the water bath. Tried to bite me. That's a good sign. I got some water in him and put an ice pack under him. What should I do during the day? They have plenty of shade and water. They free range mostly.

I wouldn't put him back out into the heat for a couple days. They need time to recover. Do you have a dog crate or carrier that he could stay in for a couple days? He sounds really dehydrated and putting him back out in the heat will make that worse...

He's the only one that has been affected. I didn't realize it was affecting him so bad. I feel so bad for him. I'm a bad chicken mamma.

Yes I can keep him in the garage in a dog crate. I need to buy a fan though.

A bad chicken mama would have just left him out there to die...great job for bringing him in caring for him through this! It's weird how some are more sensitive than others in the heat...

When we had our heat wave, I spent most of my day putting out frozen fruit and vegies, refilling waterers 4X a day and even making frozen yogurt bars to help them deal. Fans inside and out of the coop...it was a full time job! Good thing that I'm a homemaker, I can't imagine what I would have done had I needed to work!

Keep up the good work, your little friend will appreciate it!
