My hen, roughly 3 or so years old is acting lethargic. Earlier today she started standing around, sometimes with her eyes closed, her face is rather pale. The same symptoms were seen a few days ago but seemed to clear up. There are some signs of diarrhea near the vent although she has more recently produced normal healthy looking droppings. The rest of the flock is healthy. One thing that may be causing it is that the feed is mostly dust and so we have been feeding additions to the diet such as egg and sunflower seed. What action should I take and what might be the cause?? Any help is much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I had this too in a hen. She lasted about 2 weeks, but just got more and more lethargic and thinner and then died. I did what I could, but without clear symptoms, there wasn't much to treat. Good luck!

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I've given her nutri drops and scrambled eggs and put her to bed now. She might just be having an off day but if it continues I'll take her to the vets and may be get some antibiotics depending on what they think. Hope she gets better. Sorry about your girl❤❤

If possible, get some fresh droppings, and ask the vet to test them for coccidiosis and worms. They can also do a gram stain for bacteria or enteritis. Check her crop to feel if it is empty, full, hard, or puffy like a balloon. Crop impaction or sour crop can be deadly. What color are her droppings? Summer heat and molting are very hard on chickens. Worms or infections can make them sick. I have also had a couple die of blocked gizzards. Check her skin all over for any tiny bugs that could be lice or mites. Some mites only come on them at night.

Thanks for the detailed advice. I know for a fact that its not mites as we thoroughly checked and powdered the house. I will check for coccidiosis and treat them for worms as they are due their flubevent. As far as I can see droppings are normal though which is what makes me frustrated. I will check on her crip in the morning. Hopefully the issue will have a simple solution. Fingers crossed. Thanks again for the help.
