I HAVE A HEN THAT WE THOUGHT HAD A CROP PROBLEM. WE HAVE BEEN GIVING HER BREAD WITH OLIVE OIL AND PROTEIN AND SOME WATER WITH SUGAR. NOW SHE IS WEAKER AND SHE HAS A SLIMEY LOOKING STUFF COMING OUT OF HER MOUTH? WHAT IS THIS? WE HAVE SOME ANTIBIOTICS TO GIVE HER THIS EVENING. WHAT IS GOING ON??

I wish I could help, just trying to bump up your post so you get help. Hope your hen makes it! Massage her crop and give her warm water in the mean time.

Good luck!!

Was her crop impacted?

I would discontinue the sugar water. If she has sour crop the sugar will make it worse.
Give her things like plain probiotic yogurt, ACV, diced tomatoes. These things will help balance out the bacteria problem that may be going on, based on the slime coming out of her mouth. If the slime has a foul odor then that is most likely sour crop.

If its impacted/sour crop the antibiotics won't help any.

I think that if sour crop reaches a certain point you don't want the bird ingesting it, as it becomes pretty septic. I'm not 100% sure of this though.

I was given this info from member Glenda L Heywood about crop flushes.
However, crop flushes can be dangerous to the bird, I did not have the guts to try it but thankfully the object blocking my hen's crop passed. You might want to take her to a vet if you aren't sure.

CROP FLUSH
first use the flush
1/2 cup of baking soda
1 pint of warm water

Here is what I always did for the crop problem
I took the 1/2 cup of baking soda
and disolved in the pint of warm water and with a
childs ear syringe filled the syringe with the soda water mixture.
Now I held her out from me and slwoly put the syringe to the back of her mouth and squeezed the water solution into the crop.

Then with my fingers came up under the out side of the chest of the bird. Starting below the crop and brought my fingers up so as to expel the impacted sour feed and what ever.

I did this till the water was gone - three times. Then I took and put her in a cage
alone and fasted her from feed for 24 hrs.

Then the next day i mixed the milk and two slices of bread and 1/2 small container of yoguart. and fed her this.

The next morning when I went out to give her the
bread/milk/yoghurt mixture, her crop was completely empty for the first time

So then as I havd put the chicken on a fast
I still feed the bread/milk/yoguart mixture this twice a day for a week
then the bird could be put on crumbles
DO NOT feed it any whole grain for quit a while

Also give the bird
1 tbsp of ACV in pint of water
as the ACV will help the gut restoration for good gut flora

HER CROP IS EMPTY NOW..EARLIER IN THE WEEK IT WAS HARD. NOW IT IS EMPTY. SHE HAS DIAHRREA. WE CANNOT FEEL AN EGG. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT SHE IS EGG BOUND. I AM AT A TOTAL LOSS.

What kind of diarreah? Is it very very watery? Mushy? Pasty?
Does she have a foul odor?
Any other symptoms or abnormalities at all?

I BELIEVE SHE WAS IMPACTED AT ONE POINT. WE HAD BEEN GIVING HER OLIVE OIL WITH BREAD CRUMBS AND PROTEIN. WE ALSO WERE MASSAGING HER CROP. I DON'T HAVE ANY APPLE CIDER VINEGAR BUT I WILL BE GOING TO GET SOME. SHE HAS HAD SOME DRASTIC WEIGHT LOSS TOO.

POOP IS WATERY WITH WHITE IN IT. NO BLOOD THAT I HAVE SEEN. WHEN YOU PUT WATER ON YOUR FINGER SHE DRINKS IT AND THEN WILL DRINK ONE TIME BY HERSELF. SHE IF VERY LISTLESS ALSO. TODAY IS THE FIRST TIME HER CROP HAS BEEN TOTALLY EMPTY.

Watery poo can mean that she hasn't been getting enough nutrients, which would be the case with an impacted crop. If today is the first time her crop has been empty, its very possible that she's soured a bit as well. I would give her the plain probiotic yogurt and the ACV for sure. You can also make a warm wet mash out of her pellets to get some more nutrients in her. Keep her on soft foods. It sounds like she had an impacted crop for a while and then the contents soured before she passed it.

I hope that its just a matter of getting some probiotics in her and getting her back on some soft food to make her feel better. Try those, I hope your girl improves soon!
