Hi!
I hope some one can help me... This morning when i went to feed my 3 month old Aracauna/Easter Eggers pullets my favorite one, "Azgrey," was just laying down, listless, and not wanting to get up, but she was fine yesterday as far as i could tell. Her eyes are bright, she has no discharge, and she's breathing fine. Every once in a while she does open her mouth and stick out her tongue like she's yawning and will do it several times in a row, but i don't think its a yawn. She did get up a couple times this morning--once to go to the food dish, once to go to the water dish, and a couple times to move closer to her friends--but she did not really eat or drink when she went to the food and water. She seemed to be walking okay when she did move, although she was all puffed out, her movement was very slow with short steps, and she seemed to tire quite quickly. When i picked her up and felt her legs and toes they seemed to be very weak. Her crop is small (not impacted), and i have wormed them several times since i got them when they were several days old (I got them from a woman in the area, but i'm pretty sure they came from a hatchery).
I have separated her from the others because she kept getting stepped on and shoved around, which made her more comfortable, but she seems to be getting weaker and more lethargic as the day goes on. I spoke to an avian vet on the phone (I don't have the money to take her in), and she seemed to think she may have a vitamin D deficiency even though she's been on the same medicated chick starter I have fed to all of my chickens with no problems. If that is the issue, I'm not sure what i can give her as far as a vitamin D supplement (she told me to give her vitamin D injections which i do not have access to). I've given her Penicillin, a calcium syrup, and vitamin B complex, but I'm terrified that she is going to continue to decline. Does anyone know what i should do or what could be wrong with her?
