Only to autopsy the chick would give more information.

I would guess, with the muscles relaxing after death, the blockage may went away or went more inside the body. But just a guess, as I am no vet.

I agree with @Fenrisulfr . Remove the sawdust. I use wood shavings, but never sawdust.

I use aspen shavings on top of paper towels, and sometimes hemp bedding, usually when they are a bit older and less likely to eat it.

Thanks! I have done and now they’re just on paper towels and will be for the next few weeks!
