My silkie roo started making sounds about 4 months, sounded like a baby dinasour. We laughed every time he talked, he sounded nothing like a crowing roosters. He lived in the house over the winter so we could hear him daily. You said he/she, my roo had a jbig bushy butt. the hens by comparison were smaller and shorter, small butt.

In my stock that would be a likely girl but I don't know about other bloodlines. Is the comb small and flat or does it have a large roundy part that kind of bulges out? Also on roosters you'll start looking for thin little streamer feathers coming off the back of the head as well any old minute.

You know, I'd make a guess that it is a girl. Mind you it's only a solid, educated guess. Post when you figure out what it is. Keep watching for those streamer feathers off the back of the head, that should be the next thing that will show up- mine get them before they crow. At first they are barely noticeable but then they get clearer. And my boys most of them start crowing by 6 months so you don't have long now.

I accurately predict sex on many of my silkies by 4 months old BUT I always add in that there is a margin of error and there are a certian small amount that keeps me on the fence till they are older. Every so often a boy masquerades as a girl for a long time.
