Hello. I'm new here to the forum and to chickens. We have 4 pullets of the same age, none of which are laying yet. We got them in April. Three of them are robust and large. Then there's the Silkie... About a week ago I noticed that her left eye was scabbed over. I almost thought she'd had her eye pecked out because I couldn't even tell where it would be. I picked up some Vetericin and sprayed it on the eye area, and within an hour I saw her eye, but since then it's been closed. I've continued doing that, but today I noticed that her right eye is also shut. I've seen some bubbles at both eyes, but mostly the right because the left has been almost entirely obscured. I've swabbed away some yellow crust-like scabs. Her head feathers are sticky, as is the area on her body where she preens. The exudate also smells pretty stinky. She has otherwise seemed fine. As long as she could see from her right eye, she eagerly ate bread and scrambled eggs. But now that both eyes are closed, I'm worried about her being able to eat and drink. I picked up some Tetroxy HCA-280, but haven't administered it yet (assuming she'll be able to find and drink the water). Should I go ahead and put that in their drinking water? I haven't noticed any sneezing or wheezing, but she does open and close her beak now and then; it reminds me of someone trying to open closed ears. Could this be the silent gasping of Aspergillosis? I've also wondered about Coryza and fowl pox, which apparently is rampant in Florida this summer. She has been clucking and making her normal sounds. I'm worried about her; she's so cute and sweet and I hope we can save her, but also don't want to spend a lot of $ on a chicken, no offense. The three others haven't exhibited any signs of sickness. Could it be allergies and not infectious? (I just checked on her and her right eye is also still completely closed.) I'm trying not to feel discouraged. We initially had brought home 5 little hens, but the Marans gradually became paralyzed and floppy. I took her back to the breeder, and she replaced with another Marans who was fine until I found her dead one morning a week later. Now the Silkie. :( I sure hope things improve. Oh, they're still finishing up the last of their medicated feed. (I took the photos this morning.) Thanks for any insight.
