I bet it was racoons. A few years ago we had a lot of them and they would chew toes/legs off of my young chickens/chicks through a hard ware clothe cage that I kept them in. They did heal well and could still walk. Racoons have little fingers and can get ahold of anything.
HELP! Something ate off the toes of my babies..I'm sick....
