I was forced to take a public speaking course this semester in order to graduate (grumbles) and it's time to give our informative speeches. I thought it'd be great to do one on backyard chicken-ing since it's becoming increasingly popular and a lot of people seem unaware of it. I'm running a bit last minute here because I had an entire other speech planned out, but decided it'd be better for my persuasive speech. So, I've got to get everything all ready for Monday night

Just wanted to ask if any of you would like to contribute some of the great pictures I know we all have--snuggling our chickens, kissing our chickens, and just plain interacting with them. I have some of my own, but I figured if I just showed mine they'd all just think I'm crazy

For anyone who lives in larger metropolitan areas and keep chickens, it'd be great to hear about your experiences as well. I remember reading about a woman who kept chickens in NYC, I believe, and that really drives the point that people are doing it everywhere home.

Anything you want to share, stories or whatnot, is completely welcome!

Thanks guys!

Angie, that picture is beyond adorable. That chicken is almost as big as she is!

I might not show the surgery pictures (though I do remember someone who had a tendon surgery done on their chick--it was a feel good story with nice before and after pics), but I think it's a good story to tell to show that they are more than just chickens to most of us

PLEASE leave out the part that they will need a 12 step program after they have become addicted. That they will spend all their rent money on just one more coop, just one more batch of eggs, just one more increase in incubator size, just a few more chicks, pullets, maybe a roo or two so you can save money and make your own fertile eggs, not to mention feed, scratch, cracked corn, whole oats etc. I was even thinking of starting my own small business with knit winter outfits for them (of course matching their owners cool sweaters), and maybe even little chic tote bags so we can take them everywere with us.
