HELP! SPUR WON'T STOP BLEEDING!!! need ideas in case other ideas don't work

my roosters' spur came off and now it won't stop bleeding no matter what I do. Help please!

I've had this happen twice. I just taped a cotton ball firmly over the place where his spur used to be and let it be for several hours so that the bleeding stops. Remove cotton ball, spray with blu-kote or other disinfectant (iodine?) then release.

how did you tape it on? my roo has fluffy feet, he is a silkie

The tape would just have to go over the feathers and smash them down.

Painter's tape is nice since it sticks but not too hard.

Some bad bleeds just need constant pressure for 20 minutes!

If he is friendly, you could hold him, keep pressure on the wound and watch a movie.

Have you tried cornstarch? Or ice?

He is probably deficient in vitamin K (essential for blood coagulation). Feed mill error (?) or something like that, meaning the other ones are deficient too. So...kale, swiss chard, collard greens, cabbage, broccoli or cucumber, whatever is available should be offered regularly to up the vit K. For example, blended cucumber mixed with their feed will provide a memorable feast.

Nah. Spurs just bleed a lot (like a dog's claws, if you've ever accidentally nicked one.)

You can get a roll of vet wrap to keep on hand, it sticks to itself.

okay it stopped bleeding after about 30 minutes? something like that I just taped the cotton ball over the spur like you said and left him be for the night. though some blood was still trickling this morning like just a couple drops every few minutes. should I keep him separated from the hens?

I would try to keep him quiet, so that means yes, away from the hens for now.

Blah!!! On still dripping! I would think it would be done!!
