Can anyone help?
One of our chickens has a soft crop rather than the normal grainy crop it should have. This particular chicken has also had a prolapse about two months ago but thankfully it went back in and she has managed to produce eggs but not as regularly as she used to. We were advised to empty the crop by tipping the chicken down towards the ground open its mouth and straiten it's neck but nothing came out? We are relatively new to all this and our first year keeping chickens has been easy and drama free our second year seems to have turned out to be a bit more tricky. We have had mites which we have now thankfully got under control. Managed to introduce 3 more chickens to our original 2. I don't know if this could have anything to do with it but thought it best to mention just in case. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give us.

Welcome to BYC!

If your chicken has a full crop at night than it should be okay. However, it sounds like your hen could have Sour Crop. Sour Crop is a yeast infection of the crop, which can be made worse by feeding sweet foods like grain. If this is the case, pressing on the crop should bring fowl smelling (no pun intended) stuff up into the mouth.
Sour Crop is very treatable.
