the chick was dazed and quiet afterwards, but survived. she's now very sleepy, though, and just acts "different," i guess? i googled and came up short... anyone have experience with this? i'm worried about her and longer-term damage. thanks!

You'll just have to watch her carefully. She may have internal injuries. It all depends on how she was stepped on. Was it a glance or a stomp?

In the future, keep the children away from the chicks when they are this little.
Good Luck.

I don't have any experience as far as stepped on, but my 2 year old reached into the brooder and grabbed one and was carrying it around by the neck... I also think he tried to put the poor critter into the trash can... and our little guy survived and is thriving now.

just take it day by day and see. offer food and water. and hope that no serious damage was done. ours was eyes closed and not moving when i took him off the 2 year old. had to nurse him a bit. sometimes they need a recovery period....

I had a chick stepped on pretty firmly by a 70 lb black lab mutt. She was dazed and wobbly for about a day, maybe two, and closed her eyes and stood there and wobbled a lot. I thought for sure she was a goner. But she still seemed interested in eating and drinking some, and perked back up after a couple days. Now she is the biggest of the three and doesn't seem a bit the worse for wear.

Each of the other two chicks were stepped on in the first week or two, despite what I thought we pretty good precautions, by a 2 year old and a 4 year old respectively, though not that badly. They were over it immediately. So it seems like they can be pretty resilient if there is no major internal damage.

Just best to be really careful with the little critters when they're too young to scramble (groan) from danger.

accidents happen! I've never had one stepped on, but my daughter dropped one before. I fell a good 4 ft, it was disoriented for a few days and made a full recovery. I hope it will be ok. please keep us posted.

by way of a VERY overdue update... it wasn't a purposeful stepping-upon and we were RIGHT there with our daughter when it happened. the new rule became everyone must be seated to play with the little chicks!

anyhow, over two years later, olivia is still a thriving hen and our best layer! thanks for calming a new chicken mama. :)

A 2 yr old stepped on a chick with no mother. He keeps falling asleep standing up and his sinbling is running around alot, what should i do?
