Help Keep Benny Home!
Bristol CT is thinking of implementing a Rooster Ban,
any Bristol chicken owners or anyone interested in helping us, please email me, thank you!

Hello Cardinalmaccio- We are going through the same issue in Sacramento County, CA. Four out of five of our County Supervisors voted to enact a countywide ban on all crowing fowl in unincorporated residential areas. Luckily, the single "no" voting supervisor said he really felt the Board needed to get more information before doing a final vote. He bought us three months time to get supporting speakers.

The only thing I can suggest for your fight is to try and get as many of your rooster fans to contact every one of your county's supervisors regardless of district via phone, email, Facebook, etc. and show up to speak at any meeting with "roosters" or "crowing fowl" on the agenda. You may have to take your cause to the media (TV, internet, local newspapers, radio). I have been trying hard to get folks to stand up and be heard. I've been posting to local chicken groups and every Sacto thread on BYC. I have placed flyers at feed stores and Veterinarian offices. I am still working on the media thing.

People are just plain scared to come forward. Many are too busy and many have just given up, expecting the inevitable loss of cause. Our supervisors proposed and voted on most of their recent zone amendments without giving any property owners mailed notices or written/visual media announcements. I guess if all of us had subscribed to their district supervisor's email blasts or attended their local town hall meetings we might have had a clue. My district supervisor's monthly town hall meetings are at 7:30 AM. Just about every attendee has white hair and is white. That needs to change!!! The Board 's monthly meetings are on Tues or Wed at either 9:30 AM or 2:00 PM downtown. We have a very large county that is not fully supported by public transportation and most folks are either working or transporting their kids during these times. So understandably, it is not easy to garner group participation.

Good Luck to you Bristol and to all your roos. I hope you win!
