Help! SUdden chicken death??!

Just this week i have had a chicken and a chick die. The chicken was 1yr 2 months, the chick was only 3 months old. Last night when i went to lock up the chickens, i noticed the hen sitting in her nesting box and had her head resting on the ledge. I woke her up and she seemed fine just sleepy. THen this morning when i went to let the chickens out, she was dead! The chick i found dead out side in their fenced area. I have looked every where for possible signs of coccidiosis but found that their droppings looked normal. Now this morning i have noticed another chick looking drowsy, i hope its just tired and not going to die. I feed the chickens layer pellets, and the chicks starter feed. This week i had to mix the chickens and chicks because i was running out of room. I do still feed both chick and layer feed. i did purchase a bag of medicated chick feed for the first time last week in hope it would help the chicks. I am getting very worried. Please help.

After talking to my extention office they said they were unsure but could be from straw puncturing the gizzard. After cutting it open, I inspected the gizzard and didnt find anything weird but on the lower neck where the gizzard is located, the area if skin under the feathers was a dark purple. There did seen to be a hole but was not sure of that could have been because of me. The area of skin was purple when I found her dead. The organs did look fine but a few weeks ago I did have a hen poop out some ovarian tissue could that be why? Please HELP!

Do you have some Corid for treating the chicks? It comes in powder (1/2 tsp. per gallon of water) and liquid (2 tsp. per gallon.) It won't hurt them if they don't have coccidiosis, but if they do, you will get a head start. Take them off the medicated chick feed while you treat all chickens for 5 days. Make a fresh batch daily. Your hen may have been an internal layer or had a crop issue.
