Help! We bought a Buff Orpington over a month ago. She is still a young pullet, about 2 months old, so she isnt laying yet. When we first bought her, she was so sweet, would run to us, and climb in our laps, etc... The past 2 weeks she has become aggressive towards us when we reach for her. We have NEVER rough handled her, or mistreated her in any way, but she has suddenly started pecking our hands when we reach for her. Please help with insight as to why this behavior has started, and any suggestions on how to STOP this behavior would be greatly appreciated! I wanted a Buff because of their supposedly calm, loving and pet-like behavior, so what is going on with my girl? Thanks in advance!

Your Buff being aggressive is totally normal. All chickens have a different personality, and your Buff is probably either going through a stage or maybe she is getting broody. Buff Orpingtons do get broody sometimes, so don't worry, I am sure your Buff will be sweet as ever if you just give her some time :).

Thank you for your response! My husband jokingly said that she was going through a rebellious teenage stage! ha! I hope this is just a stage, as NONE of my other 8 chickens, ranging from Bantams, Brahamas, Silkie, New Hampshire Reds, and Brown Leghorns have shown this aggressive behavior. Even our sweet, little man Bantam Rooster has never shown aggression towards us!

Some our chickens were ike that and they started running with the ACTUALL chickens and she turned into a little rooster! so it could be she us just getting along with the rest of the chickens. just another option.

Ha ha, you're very welcome! I'm sure your Buff IS going through a "teenager stage", ha ha ;).
